For each and every event there are stories. And, for each of the 1.3 million people who have participated in RhodyCo events there are stories.

RhodyCo Productions - 'The Beginning'

It all began with a love of running. . . . in 1983 Dave Rhody was taking a break from a nine-year stint as a social worker and began waiting tables at Houlihan's Restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf. Dave was an avid runner and ran every where he could, including to and from work, logging 80 to 100 miles a week. Then, with support from Houlihan's Restaurants, Dave decided he wanted to run from Newport Beach (LA) to San Francisco (630 miles) in 19 days. Along the way he'd stop at the various Houlihan’s Restaurants on his route. He arrived at Houlihan's on Fisherman's Wharf on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1983.

That run, sponsored by Houlihan's Restaurants, led to his creation of the 'Houlihan's to Houlihan's Race' , Sausalito to SF across the Golden Gate Bridge in the Spring of 1984. It turned out, Dave had a natural instinct for event productions and the first Houlihan’s to Houlihan’s was a great success with nearly 2000 runners and awards presented by San Francisco 49er quarterback Joe Montana.

After the success of several more runs in '84 & '85, Kathy Henning joined Dave as a partner (in business and life). Later, Kathy's sister, Nancy Nobriga joined RhodyCo and is now RhodyCo's Operations Director. Diane Kotta, who started as a volunteer in the early 90's, became part of the staff in 1995 to handle registration and public information. Over the years we have had hundreds of smart, hardworking people work with us on event weekend. These are our weekend warriors and are truly the backbone of RhodyCo's success. While many are still working with us some have moved on -- but all remain part of the RhodyCo extended family.

RhodyCo continues to produce high-profile running, walking and cycling events in San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area of Northern California. In partnership with our clients and sponsors, RhodyCo produces some of the best 5K run/walks, 10K and 12K runs and half marathons in the country. 'Best' . . . 'Fun' . . .  Exciting . . .  'Well-organized' . . . 'Beautiful' . . . 'Challenging' -- we have treasured every compliment (and listened carefully to every suggestion). In our first 25 years we've produced over 360 major events with 1.3 million participants.

The single most unique aspect of RhodyCo Productions in the special events field is that we are a full-service agency.  Not only are we successful in designing, developing, funding, and marketing major participatory sporting events, we do all the hands-on management of events as well.  We review specific plans with our clients about such issues as ideal banner placement for maximum media exposure, and our experienced crews not only hang the banners but direct the media's event coverage as well.

Most importantly Dave Rhody and the RhodyCo staff are obsessed with all the small details -- from the number of tables ordered to the efficiency of street closures -- that add up to a well-organized event.  We are very proud of our reputation in the general public as well as with our clients for producing first class events.

RhodyCo has had the privilege of partnering with many great companies and non-profits.  Some of these include;  Diamond Foods, Inc., Kaiser Permanente, Southwest Airlines, PowerBar, Andronico’s Markets, Starbucks Coffee,  Nestle Waters, Hewlett Packard, the California Beef Council, Peets Coffee, Healthy Choice, Clif Bar, Sports Basement, PW Markets, New Balance, Blue Cross of California, Macy’s, Jamba Juice, Specialized, AT&T, Mollie Stones Markets, Asics, Jeremiah’s Pick Coffee, Pepsi, Tropicana, Lunardi's Market, Ocean Spray, the Examiner, the Chronicle, the Marin Independent Journal, the Alameda Newspaper Group, the Contra Costa Times, KGO-TV, KRON-TV, KPIX-TV, FOX TV, SportsChannel, ESPN, KFOG Radio, MOViN Radio, KNBR Radio, KBLX Radio, Alice Radio, Edgewood Center for Children’s and Families, Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland, Pamakid Runners, Eden Medical Center, San Francisco Fire Fighters Toy Program, California Academy of Sciences, Northern California Special Olympics, UCSF, Koret Family House, United Way of the Bay Area just to name a few.
